As a #NACE16 first-timer, the conference completely exceeded expectations. From finally meeting everyone at the Welcome Reception to seeing hundreds of you at our WayUp CEO Liz Wessel’s talk “Bringing Sexy Back, How Traditional Companies Can Attract Entrepreneurial Innovative Talent,” I was continually amazed by the thoughtful, open and educational conversation everyone brought to the event.
There were so many highs that it’s hard to pick favorites, but I wanted to share a few of many top moments from the week.
WayUp’s Booth Was a Hit
Our favorite moment without a doubt was seeing the fashionable summer gear sported by Chaim, Assistant Director at Touro College, and Trudy, AVP and Executive Director at New York University, at WayUp’s photo booth. NACE is a time to learn from industry experts, but more than that, I can truthfully say that I have never been to a conference that was so much fun!
We were lucky to have two of the best students helping us out. Murjanatu & Brian were up for any challenge. They helped take your pictures, answer your questions and tell you what getting hired on WayUp is really like. No one brings the same honesty and energy as students, which is why we love to hire so many on WayUp!
Liz Tells NACE How to Bring Sexy Back
Even though I did not get to see our Co-Founder and CEO Liz Wessel speak at NACE due to my booth patrol duties, I did get to practice with her in our hotel room for a sneak peek the night before. What I love most about How Traditional Companies Can Attract Innovative Talent is the honest, fresh and data-backed perspective Liz brings to millennial hiring. She explains why swag is a waste of money, and talks through the trend towards text messages and Snapchat for campus recruitment. She really knows students better than anyone else I’ve ever encountered and does such a phenomenal job translating her knowledge in an actionable way.
We Danced with Sue the T-Rex
Sipping wine and dancing next to Sue with you was a once in a lifetime way to end NACE. What a way to ring in 60 years! It’s not often that you find thousands of people who you can learn from all day, and then dance with all night.
The common thread here was the openness of attendees and our ability to learn together while genuinely having fun. It’s not often you meet thousands of people who share true passion to get students hired! At WayUp, our goal is to help all students find meaningful employment, and NACE reassured me that together we will accomplish this goal.
